This year’s topic is centered on UNITY IN DIVERSITY: WHAT IS THE ROLE OF JUSTICE.
The speaker began by clarifying some concept. She defines UNITY as a state of being, an undivided entity, a state of being united or joined as a whole. This is a word for togetherness and oneness. And that Diversity can be said to mean a range of different things, the condition of having many different elements, a state of unlikeness or a point of difference. Ms. Temitayo went further to define justice, JUSTICE – She said it is a mechanical process or structure of law set in place and agreed to by the people of the state with regards to ethics. Justice is a circumstance of fairness, where all situations should be treated alike.
Relating it to our Nigeria system; This concept of “unity without uniformity and diversity without fragmentation”, that is a total shift of focus from unity based on tolerance of cultural, social, physical, religious, political and ideological differences towards a more complex kind of unity based on the understanding that our differences add flavour to our human existence and interactions.
Questions were asked and the guest speaker gave profound responses to the questions asked, that made the whole event a memorable one.
