Dominicans in Nigeria & Ghana
The Roman Catholic Religious Order known as the Order of Preachers or Dominicans was founded in 1216 by St. Dominic de Guzman. The Order was founded to preach and to combat heresies in the Church. The Order spread to many countries as provinces.
The Order came to Nigeria in 1951. The Order of Preachers (Dominican Friars) entity in Nigeria and Ghana is known as the Province of St. Joseph the Worker. The Dominican Province of St. Joseph the Worker (Nigeria & Ghana) comprises over 200 friars. Blessed with an abundance of vocations, we strive to live out our Dominican and Thomistic traditions as we face the challenges of modern-day West Africa.
